Tigers Shutout Pioneers in Home Match-Up

Springfield, OH- Wittenberg returned home on Edwards-Maurer Field for a rematch against the Pioneers of Transylvania University. Wittenberg competed against Transylvania earlier in the season and came out on top with a 2-1 score. The Tigers have now competed against Transylvania nine times since 1992 and have a perfect winning streak against the Pioneers after defeating them tonight 6-0.

Similar to their first match-up of the season, the Tigers looked to senior Allison Ormsby to lead on the offensive side. Ormsby put up two of the Tigers six goals on the night. Ormsby was able to put the first point on the board in the first 52 seconds of the game unassisted. The Tigers were able to hit the back of the cages in each of the quarters, with Regan Mazzulli picking up the Red & Whites second goal unassisted. Wittenberg headed into halftime with a 2-0 lead over the Pioneers. Ormsby came back in the third quarter with her second goal of the game unassisted, followed by Katie Webber with her fourth goal of the season.

Meredith Johnson and Allyson Miller were both able to pick up collegiate firsts in the fourth quarter with Johnson getting through Pioneer defense for a goal off of an assist from Miller. Senior, Sofi Hess put up the last point of the night unassisted for her first goal of the 2020 season and second career goal.

NCAC Stats Leaders- Regan Mazzulli is second in the NCAC for shots on the season with 40. Allison Ormsby is ranked third for goals with five while Mazzulli and Katie Webber are both sitting at number eight with four. Mazzulli and Ormsby are in an eleven-way tie for third in the conference for assists with two each. Allison Ormsby sits at number three for points in the conference with a total of 12 and Regan Mazzulli is just behind in fifth with 10 points. Katie Webber makes the top ten for points with nine on the season. Emma Hurguy currently ranks number three in NCAC goalie leaders for saves with 34.

NCAA Stats- Freshman, Shannon Csordos, is tied for 34th in defensive saves with two.

The Tigers will be back home on October 2nd for their Alumni Day against the College of Wooster at 1PM.
