Springfield, Ohio – Wittenberg University field hockey standouts Paige Vanerstrom (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and Zara Tickner (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) have earned 2014 All-Great Lakes Region honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).
Vanerstrom, a junior midfielder, earned first-team all-region after a second-team award in 2013, while Tickner, a freshman defender, was selected to the second team. Both student-athletes will now be considered for NFHCA All-America honors, which will be announced later this month.
Vanerstrom ranked fourth on the team in scoring, contributing six goals and four assists for a total of 16 points during the 2014 season. She picked up first-team All-NCAC after claiming a spot on the second team a year ago.
Tickner was a mainstay at the defensive end, starting 17 of the Tigers’ 19 games. She contributed two defensive saves and earned honorable mention All-NCAC for her performance.
Wittenberg posted records of 9-11 overall and 7-7 in the NCAC in 2014, good for fourth place in the final regular season standings. The Tigers placed a total of five players on the All-NCAC honor roll after the season.
