Wittenberg Football Falls In Homecoming Battle With DePauw

Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger football team hosted the Tigers of DePauw in their Homecoming showdown from Edwards-Maurer Field, falling to the visitors, 17-14. Wittenberg held DePauw scoreless for just over three-quarters of action, as the Red and White maintained a 7-0 advantage through the intermission. Wittenberg racked up 248 total yards of offense on the afternoon, as the Tiger's defense helped their offense for the second consecutive week. Rashon Edwards came up with the big red zone interception, haulting the DePauw scoring drive. The Wittenberg defense was led by Cameron Snurr with nine tackles, including two tackles for a loss with one sack. Grant Hollinger made his way into the DePauw backfield, getting to the visiting quarterback for a five-yard sack and tackle for loss, adding to his seven tackles on the day.

Game Breakdown

The Tigers got their offense going at the start of the second half, putting together a 16 play, 95-yard scoring drive, capped off by a Bryce Anderson two-yard rush into the DePauw endzone. DePauw put their first points on the board in the final quarter, scoring 17 points in the final 12 minutes of the game. Wittenberg came up with the monumental blocked field goal with just under five minutes in the game, as Anthony Pedro swatted the DePauw kick out of the air. Michael Fiessinger scooped up the loose ball taking the return 80-yards the opposite direction for the Wittenberg Tiger touchdown, giving the Red and White the 14-10 lead. Coming down to the wire with just under two minutes to play, DePauw put together a nine-play scoring drive, giving them the 17-14 advantage to end the game.
