Tigers Fall In First Road Showdown Of 2021 Season

Granville, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger football team traveled to Denison for the first time since 2018, falling to the Big Red 21-16. The Tigers tallied 282 yards of total offense, gashing the Big Red for 6.1 yards per play.

Game Breakdown

The Tigers came out hot in the first quarter, scoring 16 quick points. Collin Brown connected with Sam Kayser for the 35-yard touchdown score, capping-off the Tigers' 58-yard scoring drive to begin the game. Wittenberg added to the advantage with just over eight minutes on the clock in the first quarter. This time, Brown found Jake Saus on the 44-yard touchdown rout, as the Tigers went 87-yards in just over two minutes to complete the scoring drive. Brandon Goodwin put a 24-yard field goal through the uprights with just over five minutes to go, completing the scoring effort in the first quarter.

The Tiger defense held strong late in the game, as the Wittenberg offense came back on the field twice late in the fourth quarter. It was to the Tigers' misfortune; the Denison defense was not giving an inch either direction. Cameron Snurr led the Tiger defense with 13 tackles on the evening, including six solo. Fellow linebacker, Logan Jewsikow added eight tackles with four solo and four assisted.

Wittenberg will return to action next Saturday, October, 2, traveling to Ohio Wesleyan University for a 2:00 PM kick-off with the Battling Bishops.
