Tigers Continue Win Streak With Sweep of Ohio Wesleyan

Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg Tiger Baseball team continued their winning ways, improving to 24-6 and remaining unbeaten in North Coast Athletic Conference action with a sweep of the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops.

Wittenberg played two quick seven inning games, taking game one by way of a 13-1 run-rule decision. The Tigers used a nine-run second inning to propel them to a second run-rule win of the day and their fifth in NCAC play, sweeping the Bishops with a 14-1 win. Before the action got started the Tigers took the time to celebrate their senior's'; Nick Cunningham, Connor Goss, Joe Horoszko, Dylan Jackson, Justin Maynard, Maxwell Monachino, Matt Moore, Carson Rengel and Chase Whisner, also giving acknowledgment to their fifth-year players Tyler Defibaugh and Michael Osmond.

Wittenberg collected 20 hits in the series opener, scoring in every inning but the second. The Tigers surrendered the lone OWU run in the top of the third inning. Conor O'Malley slugged his way to a 5 for 5 start at the plate, including a double and four runs scored with one driven in. Ian Ash was the big run producer in the first game, sealing the seven-inning win with a grand-slam to right center, hitting his fourth home run of the season. Ash finished the first game 3 for 4 from the plate with seven RBI and a double.

James MacAuley added three hits in all three at-bats, driving in one run with one run scored.

O'Malley went deep in game two, driving in five runs for the Tiger effort. Luke Thomas added a 3 for 4 effort in the leadoff spot, driving in two runs with two runs scored. Ben Seibert tallied three hits in the series finale against the Battling Bishops.

Each Wittenberg starting pitcher earned their fifth win of the season. Cunningham took the ball in game one, with seven innings pitched, allowing three hits and striking out one.

Osmond would take the hill in game two for the Tigers. He would put in six innings of work, taking his record to 5-0, allowing two hits with eight strikeouts.
