Wittenberg Baseball Drops Doubleheader To DePauw

Springfield, OH – The Wittenberg University baseball team, suffered their first two-game home loss on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Tigers of DePauw University. Wittenberg dropped game one to DePauw, 4-2. The Red and White fell in game two by a final score of 8-0. Tanner Boros went 2 for 4 in game one with a run scored for Wittenberg. Gabe Stacy added a 2 for 3 effort from the plate in game one adding a run scored.

Game Breakdown

Wittenberg collected six hits in the first game. DePauw broke the scoring open early, posting their first run in the second inning, adding to their lead with another in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Wittenberg plated their first run of the day in the bottom of the sixth inning, cutting the DePauw lead in half, scoring their second run in the final inning of game one. Rusty Hayhurst got the start in game one for Wittenberg, tossing four innings with seven hits allowed and striking out one.  Tyler Defibaugh put in three innings of relief work for the Red and White, surrendering two hits and striking out two.

Wittenberg struggled to get the offense going in game two as DePauw posted three early runs in the first inning of action. The visiting Tigers added to their lead in the third inning with three runs, tacking on one run in the fourth and one final run in the seventh.

UP NEXT

Wittenberg will return to action on Saturday, April 17 traveling to Greencastle to wrap up the series with DePauw. The first pitch of the NCAC battle is set for 1:00 pm.
