Wittenberg Celebrates Inaugural NCAA Division III Week April 9-13

Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University's Department of Athletics and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will host a weeklong campus celebration of the inaugural NCAA Division III Week April 9-15.

NCAA Division III Week was created to celebrate academic achievement, athletic accomplishments, and leadership and community service amongst student-athletes across the country. With 442 members, Division III is the largest division within the NCAA, which administers 28 Division III championships. Nearly 180,000 student-athletes compete at the Division III level.

Wittenberg's celebration of NCAA Division III Week starts Monday in the university's HPER Center. Student-athletes are invited to pick up specially made TIGER UP! bracelets, a snack, and a bottle of Gatorade in Legends Lobby to start their week.

The Wittenberg SAAC's partnership with Special Olympics will be celebrated during the Tigers' softball game against Wooster at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 11. Special Olympians are invited to attend the doubleheader, and donations will be accepted to benefit their activities.

On Thursday, April 12, Wittenberg's men's and women's tennis teams are hosting their second annual Tiger GAMEPlan Free Tennis Clinic from 4-5:30 p.m. at the David B. and Georgiana S. Albright Tennis Complex. At 9 p.m. that day, the first-ever Student-Athlete Talent Show will take place in the Center Dining Room of the Benham-Pence Student Center. Donations will again be accepted for Special Olympics.

Friday, April 13 is Wittenberg Spirit/Gear Day. Wittenberg students can wear university apparel to Founders in the Student Center to receive special discounts on food purchases.

The week concludes with a lacrosse doubleheader on Saturday, April 14, that will coincide with a community service event. All Wittenberg students are encouraged to participate in a shed build organized by Habitat for Humanity. The shed build will take place from 8 a.m.-4 p.m on Stoughton Lawn.
