Eli Renick Named for NCAC Athlete of the Week Honors

North Coast Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week – Week of Oct. 2, 2023
 
Men's Cross-Country Athlete of the Week – Joe Barnett, Wabash
Wabash senior Joe Barnett (Westfield, IN/Westfield) placed 23rd out of 389 runners competing in the men's silver division of the 2023 Louisville Cross Country Classic held at the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky. Barnett completed the 8,000-meter loop in 26:25.9 for his fastest time of the season and six seconds off his career-best effort. His performance helped Wabash to finish second out of 48 teams competing in the silver division race.
 
Women's Cross-Country Athlete of the Week – Grace Thomas, DePauw
DePauw first-year Grace Thomas (Valparaiso, IN/Valparaiso) led the Tigers with a first-place finish at the Nike Cross Country Town Twilight held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course  in Terre Haute, Indiana. Thomas completed the 6,000-meter course in 22:39 while also being the leader in DePauw's perfect team score. Thomas' efforts helped DePauw finish first out of nine teams.
 
Field Hockey Athlete of the Week – Cate Barkdoll, Wooster
Wooster sophomore Cate Barkdoll (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park & River Forest) was the game winning force in Saturday's 1-0 shootout win over Washington & Jefferson. Barkdoll made one save between regulation and overtime as Wooster's defense allowed just four shots in 80 minutes of play. The sophomore then stopped five of the Presidents' six shootout chances to secure the victory for the Fighting Scots.

Offensive Football Athlete of the Week – Jordon Benjamin, Kenyon
Kenyon sophomore Jordon Benjamin (Montreal, Quebec/Kent School) played a big role in the Owls' first victory this season, a 40-16 win over Hiram. Benjamin set career-highs on the ground with 23 carries, 152 yards, and two touchdowns. It was the first multi-touchdown game of the sophomore's career, and he eclipsed the 100-rushing-yard mark for the second-straight week.

Defensive Football Athlete of the Week – Eli Renick, Wittenberg
Wittenberg sophomore Eli Renick (Sarasota, FL/Riverview) put together an impressive defensive performance in the Tigers' 27-24 overtime win at Denison. Renick came up with eight tackles throughout the game, including three unassisted sacks for a total of 26-yards. The sophomore also recorded a pass break-up on the day. 

Men's Golf Athlete of the Week – Brayden Weiss, Wabash
Wabash senior Brayden Weiss (Superior, CO/Monarch) finished first out of 89 golfers at the 2023 Rhodes College Fall Golf Invitational last Monday for his second career first-place finish. Weiss recorded a two-under 214 (71-70-73) to edge out second-place by one stroke. The senior recorded one eagle and carded 12 birdies overall, helping Wabash finish in a tie for fourth place out of 17 teams at the tournament.
 
Women's Golf Athlete of the Week – Becky Williams, DePauw
DePauw sophomore Becky Williams (Zionsville, IN/University High School of Indiana) shot an even-par 72 to finish fifth among 71 golfers at the Yale Invitational at the Yale Golf Course. Williams tied for second with four birdies over the 18-hole tournament. DePauw, along with Williams College, were the only Division III schools competing in the 12-team tournament.

Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week – Alem Duratovic, Kenyon 
Kenyon junior Alem Duratovic (Deerfield, IL/Adlai E. Stevenson) led the Owls to two wins this past week, scoring three of the team's four goals. Duratovic was the deciding factor in Kenyon's 1-0 victory against Centre on Tuesday, finding the back of the net in the 54th minute. He then started and ended the scoring in Kenyon's 3-1 NCAC opening win at DePauw with goals in the 26th and 71st minutes.

Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week – Heather Benway, Oberlin
Oberlin junior Heather Benway (San Carlos, CA/Sequoia) played a large role in helping the Yeowomen closeout non-conference play with a pair of wins. Benway scored the game-winning goal in the 69th minute to give Oberlin the 2-1 win over Heidelberg. She followed that effort by scoring both goals in a 2-0 road win at Grove City.

Women's Volleyball Athlete of the Week – Olivia Karwin, DePauw
DePauw junior Olivia Karwin (Menifee, CA/Paloma Valley) recorded two triple-doubles in the Tigers' 2-1 week. In a 3-1 win over Wooster, Karwin posted 10 kills, 23 assists, and 13 digs which was followed by a 17-kill, 21-assist, and 10-dig performance in a tough 3-2 loss to Otterbein. Over 12 sets, the junior totaled 31 kills, .271 hitting percentage, 59 assists, 33 digs, and seven blocks, five of which were solo.
 
NCAC Milestones & Records (Sept. 25 – Oct. 1)
 
Kenyon, Women's Soccer – During Kenyon's 4-0 win over Muskingum, the Owls racked up impressive totals of 33 shots and 20 shots on goal while holding the Muskies without a shot. The 33 shots are Kenyon's most since 2015, and the 20 on-target shots are the program's most since before 2009.
 
Ohio Wesleyan, Women's Cross Country – First-year Zoe Ward's (Columbus, OH/Worthington Christian) fifth-place finish was the best individual finish of the season by an Ohio Wesleyan runner in a meet that included more than three teams.
 
Ohio Wesleyan, Field Hockey – The win over Wittenberg was Ohio Wesleyan's eighth in a row to start the season, breaking the school record set by the 1974 team, which went on to win the state championship (Ohio Association of Intercollegiate Sports for Women (OAISW)) … Olivia Danley's (Del Rio, TX/Independence (VA)) hat trick at Allegheny was the first hat trick for an Ohio Wesleyan player since Oct. 24, 2018, when Alexis Roberts posted one against Oberlin.
 
Wabash, Football – Senior Liam Thompson (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) moved into second place on the NCAC career total offense list with 10,745 career yards. He trails Mason Espinosa, the all-time leader with 10,839 yards. Thompson also moved into third in career passing with 9,502 yards, moving past Earlham's Justin Rummell with 9,390 yards. Thompson also moved into a tie for second place with 85 career passing touchdowns, matching DePauw quarterback Matt Hunt's career total.
