No. 11 Tigers Take Down Oberlin on Senior Day

Springfield, OH – The No. 11 Wittenberg Tiger Women's Volleyball team celebrated three seniors and a 3-0 sweep of the Oberlin College Yeowomen on Senior Day from Pam Evans Smith Arena. Before the day got started, the Wittenberg volleyball family celebrated the dedicated hard-work and contributions, Hannah Schartz, Sarah Hettich and Katie Hiestand left on the program over their careers. As a group, this senior class has made two NCAA DIII Tournament appearances, claiming a 2019 North Coast Athletic Conference regular season title and a 2021 NCAC Tournament championship. With this win, this senior class improves to 56-26 and 18-1 in NCAC play during their time in a Tiger uniform.

Once the celebration was over, Wittenberg cruised to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-21) win over Oberlin. Wittenberg put down 43 kills on 104 total attacks with 18 errors for a .240 attacking percentage. For the second consecutive match, the Tiger defense held the opposition to under a .100 attacking percentage, limiting the Yeowomen to just 19 kills on the afternoon.

Hettich logged a team-high .571 hitting percentage on the day, putting down five kills on seven attacks with just one error. Kendall Robertson and Hiestand each added nine kills for the Tiger attack. Robertson posted a .500 hitting percentage on the afternoon, with just two errors on 14 attacks. Hiestand added six digs to her tally, with a .261 hitting percentage on the afternoon. Tyler Linkhart led the attacking effort, with a team-high 25 attempts and 11 kills. Linkhart added three aces from the service line, along with seven digs. Mack Ricketts tallied 35 of Wittenberg's 38 assists on the afternoon, including two aces and five digs. Sydnee Johnson tallied a team-high 14 digs. Ally White added 10 digs and two service aces.

Wittenberg remains unbeaten in NCAC play moving to 3-0 and improving 14-3 overall on the season.

NCAA LEADERS

  • Ricketts remains at No. 3 in DIII for assists/set with 10.72. She is No. 23 for total assists with 568.
  • Sticking inside the top 20, Linkhart comes in at No. 15 in DIII hitting-percentage, hitting .389, has 228 kills on 476 swings. Robertson comes in at No. 18, hitting .386, with 138 kills on 272 total attacks.
  • Linkhart cracks the top 10 in kills/set, averaging 4.38 to come in at No. 9 in DIII.
  • As a team, Wittenberg posts a .274 hitting-percentage to rank No. 3 in DIII behind Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Northwestern-St. Paul.

NCAC LEADERS

  • Wittenberg continues to lead the conference in hitting-percentage, kills and assists.
  • Robertson and Linkhart hold the top two spots for hitting-percentage in the NCAC. Hiestand has made her way into the top 10,.
  • Linkhart (1st – 4.45 k/s), Hiestand (4th – 3.30 k/s), and Robertson (8th- - 2.70 k/s) all round out the top 10 for kills/set.
  • Ricketts paces the conferences in both assists/set, total assists., and service aces.
  • Averaging 4.10 digs/set, Hampton comes in at No. 3 in the NCAC.

Wittenberg will return to action on Sunday, November 9, traveling to Marietta College for a non-conference showdown with the Pioneers. First serve is set for 3:00 pm.
