No. 12 Tigers Topple Terriers From The Road

Hiram, OH – The No. 12 Wittenberg Women's Volleyball team remained unbeaten in North Coast Athletic Conference action, with a clean sweep of the Terriers from Hiram College, 3-0 (25-6, 25-15, 25-22). As a team, Wittenberg tallied a .258 hitting-percentage, putting down 47 kills on 120 total attacks. Katie Hiestand led the offensive effort with 11 kills on 28 total swings for a .250 hitting marker. Tyler Linkhart posted a team-high .421 with nine kills on 19 attacks and just one error.

The Tiger defense was nearly unbreakable, holding the Hiram attack to a flatline .000 hitting percentage. Wittenberg added 10 blocks to Hiram's five. Five different Tiger's tallied a block or block assist for the Tigers with Linkhart and Sarah Hettich posting two solo blocks up front.

Four separate Tigers tallied double-digit digs, with Ava Hampton leading the effort with 14. Mack Ricketts added 12 digs, to go along with her team-leading 33 assists. Ricketts tallied three aces from the service line, without an error. Hampton was the second Tiger to tally multiple service aces without an error, putting down two.

NCAA LEADERS

  • Ricketts comes in at No. 3 in DIII for assists/set with 10.70. She is No. 13 for total assists with 535.
  • Kendall Robertson and Linkhart are the only pair of teammates ranked inside the top 20 in NCAA DIII for hitting-percentage. Robertson comes in at No. 15, hitting .389, with 135 kills on 265 total attacks. Linkhart at No. 17 in DIII, hitting .387, has 219 kills on 457 swings.
  • Linkhart stands at No. 12 in kills/set, averaging 4.38.
  • As a team, Wittenberg posts a .275 hitting-percentage to rank No. 3 in DIII behind Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Northwestern-St. Paul.

NCAC LEADERS

  • Wittenberg continues to lead the conference in hitting-percentage, kills and assists.
  • Robertson and Linkhart hold the top two spots for hitting-percentage in the NCAC. Hiestand has made her way into the top 10, hitting .247, with 165 kills on 441 total attacks.
  • Linkhart (1st – 4.45 k/s), Hiestand (4th – 3.30 k/s), and Robertson (8th- - 2.70 k/s) all round out the top 10 for kills/set.
  • Ricketts paces the conferences in both assists/set, total assists., and service aces.
  • Averaging 4.10 digs/set, Hampton comes in at No. 3 in the NCAC.

Wittenberg will return to action on Saturday, October 8, hosting Oberlin College from Pam Evans Smith Arena for Senior Day. First serve is set for 12:00 pm.
