Tiger Volleyball Splits Season Opener From MSJ Invite

Cincinnati, OH – The Wittenberg Women's Volleyball team began their 2022 season on the road at the Mount St. Joseph Invitational. The Tiger's would play two matches to open the season, taking down host MSJ in straight sets to start, 3-0 (25-21, 25-12, 27-25). Wittenberg returned to the court to battle the Spartans from Illinois Wesleyan, falling 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-23). This tough regional test will come around again on the schedule as Wittenberg will travel to the Illinois Wesleyan Holiday Inn Classic for the final week of the regular-season, taking on St. Norbert, Millikin and Illinois Wesleyan. The Tigers put together offensive attacks of .295 against MSJ and .234 against IWU. The Tigers put together their best sideout percentage, going 16-25 in the final set against IWU.

  • Junior Tyler Linkhart led the Tiger attack in the opening match with 13 kills on 24 swings, logging a .500 attack percentage. Linkhart closed out the day with 24 kills, adding 11 to her total in the final match of the afternoon.
  • The Tiger offense was balanced with six kills coming from four different hitters including Laney Yoder, Kendall Robertson, Katie Hiestand and newcomer Piper Rickets.
  • Mack Ricketts set the pace, facilitating the offense with 68 assists between the two matches. Ricketts posted 33 assists in the opener, adding 35 to her tally in the final match of the day.
  • Hiestand led the Tiger attack in the final match of the afternoon, putting down 13 kills on 28 attempts, logging a .393 clip.
  • Ally White made her Tiger debut posting four service aces in the opener against MSJ, adding four digs to her tally.

Wittenberg will return to action on Saturday, September 3 taking on Wilmington at 12:00 pm
