No. 25 Tigers Topple Mount Union

Alliance, OH – The No. 25 Wittenberg women's volleyball team picked up an out of conference win against a tough, OAC opponent on Saturday afternoon as the Red and White traveled to the University of Mount Union. Wittenberg dropped the first set to the Raiders, taking the match by a final of 3-1 [18-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-23]. The Red and White logged a .195 kill percentage on the day, putting down 61 kills on 195 total attacks. Three separate Tigers tallied double-digit kills on the day, with Katie Hiestand logging a team-high 17 kills on 46 total attacks with just two errors. Hiestand added 11 digs with one block and one service ace to her total on the afternoon. Aubrey Cox led the Red and White with a .367 hitting percentage, tallying 15 kills on 30 total attack attempts with three blocks to her credit. Paige Kucinic added 11 kills to the Tiger attack on 29 total attack attempts.

Match Breakdown

The two sides went back and forth through the early going of the match, as the Raiders took the first set from the Red and White. Wittenberg tallied 13 kills on 48 total attack attempts with nine errors for a .083 attack percentage. Wittenberg went back on the offensive in the second set, taking an early lead over Mount Union. The Raiders came back to tie the match twice at 15-15 and then again at 21-21. The Red and White sealed the second set win with a kill from Gabi Hancock off of the Ashley Brooks assist. Wittenberg kept the momentum rolling into the third set of the match, taking an early 15-10 lead over the Raiders. A service rally by Taylor Yontz with three consecutive kills from Cox and the final kill from Hiestand gave the Tigers the third set win. In the fourth set, Mount Union jumped out to the early lead, holding 14-10 advantage over the Tigers. Wittenberg capitalized on the Mount Union errors, producing some offense of their own and regaining the lead 20-19. Lexie Weithman put together a three point service rally for the Red and White to help Wittenberg secure the match.
