Tigers Open NCAC Schedule With 3-0 Sweep At Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio – After three weeks playing some of the top teams in all of NCAA Division III, the Wittenberg Tigers opened their 2012 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) schedule with 3-0 win over one of their top league competitors.

The win pushed the Tigers to 9-2 overall, while Denison, which is off to its best start since 1996, fell to 10-3.

Wittenberg won by set scores of 25-12, 25-17, 25-20. The Tigers simply overwhelmed the Big Red, pounding 43 kills to 24 for Denison, and doubling the host team in digs, 40-20.

Individually, the offense was steered efficiently by the senior setting tandem of Jordan Mungovan (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) and Hallie Donathan (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) with 18 and 19 assists, respectively. Freshman Kara Seidenstricker (London, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) topped the team with 13 kills, while senior Jessica Batanian (Sylvania, Ohio/Notre Dame) added 10 kills.

The team's defense was sparked by senior Christina Gilene (Milford, Ohio/McNicholas) with 14 digs. Seidenstricker led in blocks with four, followed closely by junior Andrea Behling (Columbus, Ind./North) and freshman Haley Mucha (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange), who contributed three blocks apiece.
