GRANVILLE, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers continued to roll through yet another North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) schedule, cruising past host Denison, 3-0, to remain unbeaten in 2009 regular season action.
Overall, the eighth-ranked Tigers are 14-3. In the NCAC, Wittenberg hasn't lost a regular season match since 2005 and stands 10-0 this year. The Tigers can match their NCAC record 63-match win streak with four wins at the Power Weekend, hosted by Earlham, on Saturday and Sunday. Wittenberg would also wrap up at least a share of a fourth straight NCAC regular season title.
Against Denison, the Tigers were paced offensively by sophomores Katie Sumner (Dublin, Ohio/Watterson) and Hillary Monnin (Russia, Ohio/Russia) with seven kills apiece. Junior Amy Cox (Newark, Ohio/Catholic) had a fine night as well, contributing five kills and no errors in nine attempts for a .555 attack percentage. Sophomore Miranda Sagle (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) was right behind with five kills and a .500 attack percentage.
Defensively, the Tigers played well at the net, led by Sumner with five blocks. As a team, Wittenberg finished with 10 total team blocks. Freshman Christina Gilene (Milford, Ohio/McNicholas) chipped in with 10 digs, while sophomore Kimmie Dyer (Copley, Ohio/Copley) added eight digs.
