Tigers Open 2009 Campaign With Defeat Of Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers, ranked ninth in NCAA Division III by the American Volleyball Coaches Association in their 2009 preseason poll, opened the 2009 season with a solid 3-1 victory at neighboring scholarship program Cedarville.

It was the second straight season that Wittenberg opened with a 3-1 win over Cedarville. The Tigers are now off for an unusual 12 days before taking on tough non-conference foes Thomas More and Mount St. Joseph on Saturday, Sept. 12 in Cincinnati.

Wittenberg Head Coach Paco Labrador emptied the bench early and experimented with many different combinations in the 2009 season opener. As a result, the Tigers' statistics were spread evenly throughout the roster, led by five kills each from sophomore Kimmie Dyer (Copley, Ohio/Copley), sophomore Catherine Farny (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) and junior Amy Cox (Newark, Ohio/Catholic). Sophomore Katie Sumner (Dublin, Ohio/Watterson) added four kills.
