Wittenberg Picks Up Another Sweep Over Oberlin

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers steamrolled to another comfortable victory Saturday, defeating visiting Oberlin by scores of 30-10, 30-12, 30-15 for a 3-0 final score.

The win moved second-ranked Wittenberg to 25-0 overall and 9-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). The Tigers long ago surpassed the previous school record for consecutive wins to start a season (10) and the NCAC mark for consecutive wins in a season (18 by Wittenberg in 2004 and 2005). Now the Tigers are working on the NCAA Division III record for consecutive games won as they have 13 straight 3-0 sweeps and a total of 41 straight games, dating back to a 3-2 win over Hope on Sept. 14.

The win over Oberlin was a team event as Head Coach Paco Labrador dug deep into his bench to spread the playing time around. The results were as impressive as always as the Tigers pounded 40 kills against just four errors, finishing with a stellar .413 attack percentage.

Freshman outside hitter Amy Cox (Newark, Ohio/Catholic) led offensively with eight kills, while sophomore middle hitter Kate Snead (Westerville, Ohio/South)added seven kills. Sophomore setter Kendall Obreza (Gainesville, Fla./Oak Hall)distributed 25 assists to drive the attack.

Defensively, the Tigers were paced by junior libero Laura Fender (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula) with eight digs. She also finished with three aces.
