Tigers Open Title Defense With 3-0 Win At Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers picked up on Wednesday right where they left off a year ago. Ranked third in the nation and first in the Great Lakes Region, Wittenberg won its 60th straight North Coast Athletic Conference match with a 3-0 victory over Ohio Wesleyan.

The Tigers improved to 9-2 overall and 1-0 in the NCAC heading into a weekend tournament at Waynesburg College. Wittenberg hasn't lost in conference play since 1997.

Statistically, the Tigers spread the wealth as usual. Freshman libero Laura Fender topped Wittenberg with 25 digs and senior outside hitter Linda Young chipped in with three blocks to lead the Tiger defense. Offensively, sophomore outside hitter Jan Kehres was tops with 14 kills, while sophomore middle hitter Caitlin Augustus was nearly perfect with 10 kills in 20 attempts for an astounding .500 attack percentage. In addition, Young added 10 kills, sophomore outside hitter Emily Bell was strong with 10 kills and sophomore setter Sarah Matesich rounded things out with 44 assists.
