MEADVILLE, Pa. - Barely 15 hours after the unthinkable occurred in a 3-1 loss at Hiram, the Wittenberg Tigers showed some moxie with a 3-0 win at Allegheny on Saturday.
At the end of a long, disappointing road trip, the Tigers now stand at 17-4 overall and 5-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. All is far from lost for Wittenberg, the eight-time NCAC regular season and tournament champions, as they head into the stretch run of the 2005 season, but the campaign has a decidedly different feel as the Tigers no longer control their own destiny in terms of the conference regular season title and the opportunity to host the tournament.
Against Allegheny, Wittenberg swept past the Gators by scores of 30-17, 30-25, 30-27. Offensively, sophomore outside hitter Emily Bell led with 14 kills and sophomore setter Ashley Anderson and sophomore outside hitter Jan Kehres each recorded two aces. Kehres also finished with nine kills.
Defensively, sophomore middle hitter Caitlin Augustus topped the squad with four blocks and freshman libero Laura Fender had a match-high 21 digs.
