Wittenberg Defeats Wooster In Battle Of NCAC Unbeatens

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers have a new-look lineup, and there are some in the North Coast Athletic Conference who have found cause for hope that their eight-year strangehold on the regular season and tournament titles are now in jeopardy. On Saturday in the HPER Center, the Tigers took care of one of the challengers, for the regular season at least, as they topped Wooster 3-0.

The match was a fairly intense tussle, however, as Wittenberg was pushed in the second and third games. After cruising to a 30-19 win in the opening game, Wittenberg captured Game 2 by a 31-29 score and then wrapped things up with a 30-27 win in the finale. The win moved the nationally ranked Tigers to 14-3 overall and 3-0 in the NCAC, while Wooster dropped to 16-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Wittenberg had three players reach double figures in kills in the match as freshman outside hitter Jackie Williams, sophomore outside hitter Emily Bell and sophomore middle hitter Caitlin Augustus all reached the 10-kill mark. Defensively, the Tigers were outstanding with 25 digs from freshman libero Laura Fender and five blocks by Augustus.
