OBERLIN, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers put the finishing touches on yet another tremendous regular season Tuesday, making the long trip to northern Ohio for a 3-0 victory over Oberlin. The win moves the sixth-ranked Tigers to 28-4 overall and 7-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, good for sole possession of second place.
It was Wittenberg's 63rd NCAC win in the last 64 matches, dating back to the start of the 1998 season. Wittenberg's 17-year NCAC record now includes 16 straight winning seasons and a sparkling overall record of 121-20. Since the Tigers posted a 2-7 record in 1989, their first year in the NCAC, Wittenberg's record is an even more phenomenal 119-13.
A makeshift lineup took the court for the Tigers against Oberlin. Freshman Brittany Steinbrecher had her best match as a collegian, finishing with 11 kills and three blocks. Sophomore Jan Kehres donned the libero uniform for the first time this year, and she contributed 21 digs. Freshman Searra Schell added 10 kills, sophomore Lindsey Penrod chipped in with eight kills and freshman Jessica Kimble rounded things out with two blocks.
