SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Coming off a heartbreaking season-opening loss against defending national champion Juniata on Friday, the Wittenberg Tigers got back on track Saturday, claiming a 3-0 win over Otterbein on Saturday.
The Tigers had it all working against Otterbein, which also lost 3-0 to Juniata earlier in the day. The Tigers evened their record at 1-1 overall thanks to a varied offensive attack, better ballhandling overall and an outstanding performance from sophomore middle hitter Caitlin Augustus, who finished with eight blocks.
The sophomore trio of outside hitters Emily Bell, Jan Kehres and Lindsey Penrod finished with seven, eight and eight kills respectively to lead the Wittenberg offense. Defensively, freshman Laura Fender continued to play well, adding 14 digs.
It gets no easier for the Tigers next weekend as they travel to Washington University for a tournament featuring some of the best teams in the nation. Great Lakes Region rival and nationally ranked Ohio Athletic Conference powerhouse Ohio Northern is the first opponent at 3 p.m. Friday.
