ATLANTA, Ga. - The old saying is that you can't win 'em all. If true, then perhaps the Wittenberg Tigers got it out of their system on Saturday, falling in five tight games to nationally ranked Emory in the finale of the Emory National Invitational. The final scores were 30-25, 30-22, 25-30, 26-30, 13-15, with the home team coming out on top by a 3-2 count.
The Tigers got another big match from senior middle hitter Kristin Fox, who finished with 19 kills and five blocks. Senior outside hitter Monica McDonald chipped in with 18 kills, senior libero Emilie Schmid added 40 digs and freshman outside hitter Emily Bell checked in with 15 digs.
Wittenberg, which will likely fall from its perch atop the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, fell to 27-2 overall with the loss. The Tigers have one more weekend of regular season matches before hosting the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Nov. 5-6. Wittenberg clinched the NCAC regular season title for a 10th straight year earlier this month.
Senior setter Sarah Yuskewich, Schmid and McDonald were named to the all-tournament team. Yuskewich has made the all-tournament in every competition this year.
