Wittenberg Downs Hope To Win Pool A at Elmhurst Tournament

ELMHURST, Ill. - It was business as usual for the Wittenberg Tigers in their second match of the opening round of pool play at the Elmhurst Tournament as they defeated the Hope College Flying Dutchwomen, 3-0. The game scores were reflected the usual Tiger dominance in 2004 as Wittenberg captured them 30-24, 30-23, 30-20.

Junior middle hitter Emily Dixon was outstanding again, following up her nine-block performance against Wisconsin-Platteville earlier in the evening with an 18-kill outing against Hope. Senior outside hitter Monica McDonald had yet another double-double, pounding 11 kills and adding 16 digs. Senior libero Emilie Schmid had another stellar outing with 24 digs.

The Tigers won Pool A of the Elmhurst Tournament, and thus they will compete for the championship on Saturday against the winners of the other two pools. First up is the host Elmhurst Bluejays at 10 a.m. (CST), followed by Wisconsin-Whitewater at noon (CST). Both teams are ranked in the top 20 nationally. Wittenberg is No. 2 in the latest poll.
