ROCK ISLAND, Ill. & ALLIANCE, Ohio — Junior Meghan Frazier (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) and sophomore Tiffany Hix (Prospect, Ohio/Elgin) broke school records in their respective events to lead the Wittenberg women's outdoor track and field team at the Augustana Midwest Twilight Qualifier and the Mount Union Last Chance Meet on Thursday.
The Basics
- Venues: Austin E. Knowlton Outdoor Athletic Complex - Rock Island, Ill.; Kehres Stadium - Alliance, Ohio
- Wittenberg competed in the 400 meters at Augustana and six events at Mount Union. Neither meet was team scored.
- Thursday was the final day for student-athletes to post qualifying times for the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which is scheduled for May 23-25 at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Wittenberg's Top Performers - Augustana Midwest Twilight Qualifier
- Frazier broke the school record in the 400 meters, finishing third with a time of 55.82 seconds. The prior record was 55.97 seconds set by Brea Medlock in 2016.
- Sophomore Abbey Danne (Johnstown, Ohio/Big Walnut) placed 20th in the 400 in 1:00.35.
Wittenberg's Top Performers - Mount Union Last Chance Meet
- Hix won the triple jump with a school-record mark of 11.59 meters. The prior record was 11.34 meters, set by Becah Delp in 2016 and matched by Hix earlier this season. Hix also posted a seventh-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 3.48 meters.
- Junior Julissa Williams (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain) won the high jump with a mark of 1.64 meters, and junior Taylor Weiss (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) was fourth with a mark of 1.59 meters.
- Freshman Jenna Delp (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) finished second in the long jump with a mark of 5.35 meters.
- Graduate student Morgan Ely (Sidney, Ohio/Houston) was fifth in the 1,500 in 5:16.40 and eighth in the 800 in 2:33.74.
National Qualifiers
- Based on national rankings, the top 22 individuals in each event and top 16 relay teams will qualify for the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. National qualifiers will be announced on Friday via press release here.
- Entering Thursday, Wittenberg had two student-athletes in position to qualify for the national meet, as Weiss was tied for seventh in the high jump with a mark of 1.70 meters, Williams was tied for 11th in the high jump with a mark of 1.69 meters.
- Frazier ranked 19th nationally in the 400 at the time that event concluded on Thursday.
