Williams, Hix win titles as Women's Track and Field leads after Day 1 of NCAC Outdoor Championships

GRANVILLE — Junior Julissa Williams (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain) and sophomore Tiffany Hix (Prospect, Ohio/Elgin) won titles in their respective events to lead the Wittenberg women's track and field team on Day 1 of the North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships at Denison on Friday. The Tigers currently lead the eight-team field after eight of 21 events have been scored.

The Basics

  • Venue: Piper Stadium - Granville, Ohio
  • Wittenberg leads the team standings with 86.5 points. DePauw is second with 66 points, and Ohio Wesleyan is third with 50 points.
  • The top three finishers in each event earn All-NCAC honors, and the top eight finishers score team points.
  • Wittenberg entered Friday's portion of the meet with five points courtesy of a fourth-place finish from sophomore Ziciah Gibson (Cambridge, Ohio/Cambridge) in the heptathlon on April 27-28.
  • Wittenberg is seeking its second consecutive NCAC outdoor championship after winning the title for the first time in program history in 2023.

Wittenberg's Top Performers

  • Williams won the conference title in the high jump with a mark of 1.69 meters, which is tied for eighth nationally. She also won the conference title in the indoor high jump this season en route to qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the event. Williams placed second in the event at the 2022 and 2023 outdoor conference championships.
  • Hix earned her first career NCAC outdoor championship, placing first in the pole vault with a mark of 3.46 meters. She was also the NCAC indoor pole vualt champion this season.
  • Wittenberg had six additional All-NCAC finishes on the day.
  • Gibson finished second in the javelin with a mark of 34.67 meters, freshman Maddi Clark (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) was second in the 10,000 in 38:21.28, and junior Taylor Weiss (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) was second in the high jump with a mark of 1.63 meters.
  • Sophomore Emma Hawk (Maron, Ohio/River Valley) finished third in the 10,000 in 38:22.15, freshman Jenna Delp (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) was third in the long jump with a mark of 5.16 meters, and sophomore Aidan Orth (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) was third in the discus with a mark of 39.66 meters.
  • The Tigers posted seven additional top-eight finishes on the day.
  • Freshman G'Niyah Brown (Dayton, Ohio/Wayne) was fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.13 meters, and freshman Story Laing (Granville, Ohio/Granville) tied for fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.26 meters.
  • Graduate student Morgan Ely (Sidney, Ohio/Houston) was sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:54.83, freshman Hallie Haines (Hillsboro, Ohio/Fairfield) was sixth in the high jump with a mark of 1.50 meters.
  • Gibson was seventh in the high jump with a mark of 1.50 meters.
  • Williams was eighth in the long jump with a mark of 4.87 meters, and senior Corin Turkovich (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) was eighth in the 10,000 in 40:05.65.

Prelims

  • Friday's portion of the meet featured prelims for the 100-meter hurdles, 400, 100, 800, 400-meter hurdles and 200. Eight competitors from each event qualified for Saturday's finals.
  • Junior Meghan Frazier (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) was second in the 100 in 12.41 seconds and the 200 in 25.22 seconds.
  • Junior Reese Neumeyer (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.17 and fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.62 seconds.
  • Junior Haleigh Willison (Crooksville, Ohio/Crooksville) tied for third in the 200 in 25.605 seconds and was fourth in the 100 in 12.54 seconds.
  • In the 400, sophomore Abbey Danne (Johnstown, Ohio/Big Walnut) was fourth in 59.74 seconds, sophomore Tymeerah De'Armond (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield) was fifth in 59.76 seconds, freshman Hallie Haines (Hillsboro, Ohio/Fairfield) was sixth in 59.93 seconds, and sophomore Delaney Tackett (Waverly, Ohio/Waverly) was seventh in 59.96 seconds.
  • Juniors Zora Shakhan (Pickerington, Ohio/Central) and Lindsey Magoteaux (Sidney, Ohio/Lehman Catholic) were third and seventh, respectively, in the 100 in 12.53 seconds and 12.84 seconds.
  • Freshman Haley Troy (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) was eighth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:07.80.
