Hawk, Hix break school records as Women's Outdoor Track and Field competes in WashU Distance Carnival, Yellow Jacket Open

ST. LOUIS, Mo. & CEDARVILLE — Sophomores Emma Hawk (Marion, Ohio/River Valley) and Tiffany Hix (Prospect, Ohio/Elgin) broke school records in the 10,000 meters and pole vault, respectively, to highlight a busy weekend for the Wittenberg women's outdoor track and field team at the WashU Distance Carnival and Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open.

The Basics

  • Venues: WashU Distance Carnival - Bushyhead Track - St. Louis, Mo.; Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open - Yellow Jacket Track & Field Complex - Cedarville, Ohio
  • Hawk competed in the 10K at the WashU Distance Carnival on Thursday night, and the remainder of Wittenberg's team competed at the Yellow Jacket Open on Saturday.
  • The Yellow Jacket Open was team scored, as the top eight placers among collegiate competitors scored team points. The Tigers placed fourth of 14 in the team standings with 83 points. NCAA Division II Wayne State won the team title with 206 points, Division II Cedarville was second with 141 points and Division I Bellarmine was third with 84 points.
  • Due to the weather, the pole vault competition at the Yellow Jacket Open held indoors at the Doden Field House.

Wittenberg's Top Performers - WashU Distance Carnival

  • Hawk placed 29th of 77 runners in the 10,000 meters at the WashU Distance Carnival with a time of 36:58.51. Her time broke the prior school record of 38:02.11 set by Mary Pfeifer in 2011.

Wittenberg's Top Performers - Yellow Jacket Open

  • Hix placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 3.47 meters, which broke the previous school record of 3.27 meters set by Gabrielle Draginoff in 2017. Freshman Story Laing (Granville, Ohio/Granville) placed fourth in the event with a mark of 3.17 meters.
  • Sophomore Ziciah Gibson (Cambridge, Ohio/Cambridge) won the javelin with a mark of 33.62 meters. Sophomore Macy DeHart (Springfield, Ohio/Kenton Ridge) placed seventh with a mark of 27.18 meters.
  • Hix added a third-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 10.85 meters. Freshman G'Niyah Brown (Dayton, Ohio/Wayne) placed fourth with a mark of 10.85 meters, and junior Taylor Weiss (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) was fifth with a mark of 10.68 meters.
  • Juniors Zora Shakhan (Pickerington, Ohio/Central), Lindsey Magoteaux (Sidney, Ohio/Lehman Catholic) and Haleigh Willison (Crooksville, Ohio/Crooksville) and freshman Jenna Delp (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) finished fourth in the 4x100 relay in 48.64 seconds.
  • Junior Meghan Frazier (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) placed fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:26.88. Sophomore Delaney Tackett (Waverly, Ohio/Waverly) was sixth in 2:28.95, and Abbey Danne (Johnstown, Ohio/Big Walnut) was eighth in 2:31.95.
  • Freshman Haley Troy (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.17 seconds and was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:11.71.
  • Delp added a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.19 meters. Junior Julissa Williams (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain) was seventh with a mark of 5.17 meters.
  • Sophomore Aidan Orth (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) placed sixth in the discus with a mark of 37.40 meters.
  • Willison added seventh-place finishes in the 100 meters in 12.46 seconds and the 200 meters in 25.53 seconds.
  • Orth added a seventh-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 40.12 meters.
  • Sophomore Emma Doerman (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) placed seventh in the shot put with a mark of 11.52 meters. Orth was eighth with a mark of 11.20 meters.
