Women's Track and Field opens outdoor season with first-place finish at Pioneer Invite

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Wittenberg women's track and field team opened its 2024 outdoor season on Saturday with a first-place finish at the Pioneer Invite hosted by Transylvania University.

The Basics

  • Venue: Pat Deacon Stadium - Lexington, Ky.
  • Wittenberg scored 167.5 points to finish first in the 14-team field.
  • Thomas More was second with 100 points, and Hanover was third with 79.5 points.

Wittenberg's Top Performers

  • Wittenberg won both relays and four individual events and posted 15 additional top-five finishes.
  • The 4x100 relay team of junior Zora Shakhan (Pickerington, Ohio/Central), freshman Jenna Delp (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) and juniors Lindsey Magoteaux (Sidney, Ohio/Lehman Catholic) and Haleigh Willison (Crooksville, Ohio/Crooksville) won in 49.47 seconds.
  • The 4x400 relay team of sophomores Abbey Danne (Johnstown, Ohio/Big Walnut) and Delaney Tackett (Waverly, Ohio/Waverly), freshman Hallie Haines (Hillsboro, Ohio/Fairfield) and junior Lainee Valentine (Marion, Ohio/River Valley) won in 4:23.44.
  • Shakhan also won the 100 meters, posting a time of 12.50 seconds. Willison was second in 12.53 seconds, and Magoteaux was fourth in 12.78 seconds.
  • Delp added a first-place finish in the long jump, posting a mark of 4.97 meters. Freshman G'Niyah Brown (Dayton, Ohio/Wayne) was third with a mark of 4.70 meters, and freshman Brooke DeHart (Springfield, Ohio/Kenton Ridge) was fourth with a mark of 4.54 meters.
  • Junior Reese Neumeyer (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:10.57. Freshman Haley Troy (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) was third in 1:12.15.
  • Junior Julissa Williams (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain) won the high jump with a mark of 1.55 meters. Freshman Hallie Haines (Hillsboro, Ohio/Fairfield) tied for fourth with a mark of 1.40 meters.
  • Neumeyer added a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.21 seconds. Troy was third in 16.67 seconds.
  • Sophomore Aidan Orth (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) placed second in the hammer throw with a mark of 41.67 meters.
  • Orth also finished second in the discus with a mark of 37.49 meters. Sophomore Emma Doerman (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) was fourth with a mark of 30.17 meters.
  • Danne added a third-place finish in the 400 with a time of 1:02.73. Tackett was fourth in 1:04.05.
  • Doerman added a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 10.60 meters.
  • Junior Megan Keys (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) was fifth in the 1,500 with a time of 5:02.97, finishing behind four Division I runners.
