Women's Track & Field Take Top Spot At 2023 NCAC Indoor Championships

Greencastle, IN – The Wittenberg Tiger Women's Track and Field Team claimed their second North Coast Athletic Conference Championship over the weekend. Amassing 190 points throughout the two-day championship event and beating out second-place Ohio Wesleyan by 87 points. This the first indoor championship for Wittenberg since 1997 and just the second in program history. The Tiger women nearly swept the top awards. Haleigh Willison earned Sprint Athlete of the Year honors, claiming the top spot in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.24. Willison added a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter with a time of 8.06. Sydney Khosla earned Distance Athlete of the Year, claiming a first-place finish in mile run with a final time of 5:08.19. Khosla added a first-place finish in the 3000-meter run posting a top time of 10:33.24 Ella Webster closed in on Newcomer of the Year honors, right behind Khosla in both the mile run and 3K, posting a second-place finish in the one mile with a time of 5:09.21. Webster finished the 3K in a time of 10:34.67. Coming off of Coaching Staff of the Year honors during the 2022 Cross Country campaign - the Wittenberg staff continued their efforts throughout the indoor season to earn the 2023 NCAC Indoor Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year.

The Wittenberg DMR team of Khosla, Danne, Tackett and Webster took the top spot to give Wittenberg their first relay win of the weekend, finishing in a time of 12:40.38. Emma Hawk worked her way through the pack to claim a second-place finish in the 5000m run, stopping the clock in a time of 18:04.40. Megan Keys added a fifth-place finish posting a time of 18:17.50.  Morgan Ely posted a fifth-place finish, stopping the clock in a time of 5:26.30. The Tigers went 2-5-7 in the women's 400-meter dash, paced by Tymeerah De'Armond earning a second-place finish in a time of 1:00.10. Delaney Tackett claimed fifth place finish with a final time of 1:02.18. Abigail Danne added a seventh-place finish, posting a time of 1:03.16. Wittenberg would go on to finish 1-2-3 in the 60-meter dash, adding in a fifth-place finish to top it off. Zora Shakhan claimed the top-spot with a time of 7.86. Meghan Frazier taking second with a time of 7.91. Lindsey Magoteaux coming in third at 7.98. Wittenberg took the 2-4-6-7 spots in the 200 dash behind Willison's first place finish. Frazier added a second-place finish with a time of 26.69. Magoteaux took fourth-place with a time of 26.97. De'Armond and Shakhan finished in a blink a sixth and seventh. Taylor Weiss claimed a third-place finish in the triple jump competition with a leap of 10.68m. The Tiger duo of Taylor Weiss and Julissa Williams finished fourth and fifth in the high jump, each clearing the bar at 1.60m. Emma Doerman and Aidan Orth finished back-to-back over at the shot put ring. Doerman taking third-place with a toss of 12.09m and Orth claiming fourth with a 11.82m toss.

The Tiger men's team earned 92 points on their way to a fifth-place finish. Zeke Bennett earned Sprint Athlete of the Year on the men's side for the Tigers. Bennett posted the top time in the 400-meter dash, finishing in a time of 49.46. Bennett earned a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash, posting a final time of 22.34. Wittenberg started the day with a first-place finish in the 4x200-meter relay, with the team of Grayson Ring, Cameron Elliott, JJ Weisenberger and Matt Rogers, posting a winning time of 1:31.16.

Elliott added a third-place finish in the 400-meter, posting a final time of 50.63. Ian McCandlish earned a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter dash posting a time of 1:57.24. Conor Kolka took fourth-place in the 3000m, finishing in a time of 8:44.62. Justin Norris claimed a fourth-place finish in the high jump competition, clearing a height at 1.92m. Grayson Ring added a sixth-place finish clearing the bar at 1.89. Jeremy Watson earned a fourth-place finish in pole vault, clearing the bar on his final attempt at 4.31m.
