Tigers Take Third At Kenyon Invitational

Gambier, OH -- Over the weekend the men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Gambier, Ohio for the Kenyon Invitational hosted by Kenyon College. The women's team was able to finish third overall with a total of 128 points and had 11 top three finishes. For the men they finished fifth with 101 points, and nine top three finishes. 

The women's field athletes got the hot day started off with Taylor Weiss taking third place in the triple jump with a mark of 9.98 meters. Freshmen Mckenna Bruce also took home third place in the hammer throw, with a mark of 39.18 meters. On the track, the freshman sprinters kept things fast. Lindsey Magoteaux claimed first place in the 100-meter dash in 12.94 seconds, and freshman teammate Zora Shakhan finished right behind Magoteaux for second place in 12.95 seconds. In the 200-meter dash Meghan Frazier was able to take first place in 27.53 seconds. Kyngston Collins was able to add to the Tiger's points with her own first place finish in the 400-meter dash. In the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles, freshman Reese Neumeyer was able to claim first place in both events adding another 20 points for the Tiger's. Senior, Caroline Arndt finished in second place for the 5,000-meter run. Moving to the relays, the team of Shakhan, Frazier, Magoteaux, and Haleigh Wilson earned a first-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay in a time of 49.35 seconds. Frazier, Collins, Magoteaux, and senior Maxine Wishman wrapped up the day with a second-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay.

For the men's side sophomore, Matthew Drovdlic finished third in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes with times of 11.34 and 22.58 seconds. In the 400-meter dash, junior Ezekiel Bennett was seconds in 49.37 seconds, and junior, Ian McCandlish was third in 50.79 seconds. Senior Garrin Bachinski secured his own second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.13 seconds. In the relays, the 4x100-meter relay team of Drovdlic, Jack Houck, Azad Robinson, and Matt Rogers added 10 points to the team score with a first-place finish in a time of 43.15 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay team of Houck, Bachinski, Bennett, and Matthew Whittemore claimed second place in a time of 3:27.90. In the high jump, freshman Dustin Franks was second with a height of 1.83 meters. Lastly, in javelin freshmen, Joshua Weisenberger also took second place with a throw of 48.17 meters.

This week on Friday, April 29th the Tiger's will be traveling to Denison University for the Big Red Invitational. This will be their last regular season meet of the year before heading into the NCAC Conference Championships. Also, this weekend is the NCAC Combined Championships at Oberlin College from April 30th to May 1st.
