Johnson graduated from Claymont High School in 2009 where she ran track, and was a cheerleader. In track, she held the 4x100 and 4x400 school records, was All-Ohio Athlete, and placed fourth at State.

Shawna is the daughter of Wendi Bolitho. At Wittenberg she is a member of SAAC, dance team, Colleges Against Cancer, and a cheerleader.
