Distance Crew Piles Up Points at DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Tiger men's and women's track and field team showed off their mid-season form with a strong showing at DePauw University, despite having only partial squads participating in the meet. The women continued their string of high marks with a third place finish while the men turned in fifth place.

The freshman duo of Darcy Dubuc (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) and Anna Henry (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) scorched the field in the 5,000 meter run. Dubuc won with a time of 19:06.89 while Henry crossed just seconds later in 19:11.30. Fellow freshman Kari Domiano (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome)turned in a runner up finish in the 55 dash with a time of 7.77 while another first-year Catherine Kuerbitz (Cleveland, Ohio/Regina) took an identical placing in the 400 dash, her time 1:02.50.

For the men, senior Gabe Savage (Lewisburg, Ohio/Tri-County North) took home a pair of wins in the mile and the 1,000 meters, winning the latter in a time of 2:32.61, which broke a school record that had stood for more than 20 years. The rest of the distance squad followed suit, with sophomore Kevin Frick (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview) very impressive in the 5K with a time of 15:47.88. In the field, senior Erik Larkin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Country Day) raised the bar in the high jump with a leap of 6'2", a jump that lands him firmly among the top competitors heading into the conference championships in two weeks.

On Friday night, a pair of Tiger pentathletes competed in the OWU Pentathlon with junior Tim Uher (Granville, Ohio/Pickerington North) and senior Kristy Parker (Hamilton, Ohio/Ross) putting together strong meets in their first multi-event attempt of the season.

The Tigers have one more opportunity to fine tune before the NCAC Championships coming up Friday, Feb. 27, at Otterbein College.
