Molly Gustafson Places 21st At NCAA Division III Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Senior Molly Gustafson (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) finished 21st in the 100-yard breaststroke on Day 3 of the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championship meet at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.

Gustafson came into the event with a seed time of 1:04.89, which ranked 18th in all of NCAA Division III during the 2014 regular season. She touched the wall in the preliminary race of the event at the national meet in a time of 1:05.07.

The top eight swimmers in each event reach the finals race and earn All-America honors, while the next eight swimmers qualify for the consolation final and earn honorable mention All-America. Gustafson earned All-America honors in the 100-yard breaststroke in 2011 with a time of 1:03.79, which stands as the school record. She added honorable mention All-America honors in 2012 as a memer of the 200-yard medley relay.

Gustafson started her 2014 national championship with a 45th-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle on Wednesday. Her time of 25.77 was a lifetime best in the event, exceeding her seed time by nearly two seconds.

Gustafson will conclude her collegiate career in the 200-yard breaststroke on Saturday. She is seeded 31st with a time of 2:23.88.
