Tigers Split Dual Meet With Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio – The Wittenberg men's and women's swimming and diving teams split a dual at Ohio Athletic Conference powerhouse Ohio Northern. The Tiger women captured a 179-119 victory, while the Tiger men dropped a 190-108 decision.

The win advanced the Tiger women to 5-1 in the dual meets, heading into a home date with Oberlin at 3 p.m. Saturday. The Tiger men are now 4-2. The meet against Oberlin will be streamed live on the Internet by the Tiger Sports Network and the Integrated Media Corps.

The women recorded eight individual first-place finishes to go along with victories in the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay. Juniors Molly Gustafson (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) and Sarah Wilson (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe) both won a pair of individual races, with Gustafson sweeping the breaststroke events and Wilson taking both backstroke events. They teamed up with seniors Jane Tsivitse (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) and Ward McNulty (Glencoe, Ill./New Trier) to touch the wall first in the 200-yard medley relay.

Freshman Margaret White (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) was also a double-winner individually, taking the top spot in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle races. She was joined in the winner's circle by senior Claire Shannon (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) in the 1000-yard freestyle and freshman Dani Lacy (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Collegiate School) in the 50-yard freestyle. Rounding things out was the 200-yard freestyle relay quartet of Lacy, Shannon, McNulty and sophomore Allie Fisher (Tinley, Ill./Victor J. Andrew).

On the men's side, the Tigers recorded six individual wins, starting with senior J.B. Easley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seven Hills) in the 200-yard freestyle. Also picking up victories were freshman Stephen Stuthers (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) in the 100-yard backstroke, freshman Kevin Duhl (Westerville, Ohio/North) in the 3-meter diving event and sophomore James Dumstorf (Louisville, Ky/St. Xavier) in the 200-yard Individual Medley.

Sophomore A.J. Burt (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) scored the Tigers' most points in the meet. He finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle, in addition to a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke.

After the meet, four Tigers were named "Swimmers of the Meet" by the coaching staff. They were Brooke Strumbel (North Royalton, Ohio/Hawken), Lacy, Stuthers and senior Andrew Koukis (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes).
