Tigers Sweep Four Decisions In Wilmington/Transylvania Double

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Wittenberg's men's and women's swimming & diving teams combined for four wins today, sweeping Transylvania and Wilmington in a double-dual meet at Wilmington by some convincing scores.

The men won 70-51 over Wilmington and 88-18 over Transylvania, while the women handled Wilmington 79-42 and Transylvania 75-46. Both the men and the women improved to 3-0 on the young season.

The Tigers won 18 of the 28 events, and three more would-be winners swam as exhibition, which would have brought the total to a decisive 21 of 28 events.

The rout started with a win for the women's 200 medley relay team, including legs from junior Sarah Wilson (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe), junior Molly Gustafson (West Hartford, Conn./Conard), senior Jane Tsivitse (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming) and senior Ward McNulty (Glencoe, Ill./New Trier).

Gustafson went on to add wins in the 100 breaststroke on a time of 1:16.88 and the 200 breaststroke at 2:49.68, while McNulty also won in the 100 freestyle and Tsivitse placed first in the 100 butterfly.

The men's 200 medley relay team matched with a win on legs from senior Andrew Koukis (Delaware, Ohio/Hayes), sophomore A.J. Burt (Wyoming, Ohio/Wyoming), freshman Chase Honeycutt (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) and sophomore Jared Crum (Galveston, Ind./Lewis Cass).

Burt would also win the 100 breaststroke and Crum added top laurels in the 100 freestyle.

Senior Claire Shannon (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) finished off a three-event opening win streak with a victory in the 800 freestyle. Freshman Dani Lacy (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Collegiate School) followed with a six-second win in the 200 freestyle on a time of 2:15.17, and freshman Steve Stuthers (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) gave the men a win in the same vent on a time of 2:06.70. Lacy would later add a win in the 50 freestyle.

Sophomore James Dumstorf (Louisville, Ky/St. Xavier) took first in the 200 butterfly and the 200 breaststroke while senior J.B. Easley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seven Hills) won the 50 freestyle.

For the women, freshman Margaret White (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) topped the competitors in the 400 freestyle, as did sophomore Ed Young (Shaker Heights, Ohio/University School) for the men. Senior Brendan Eggers (Rye, N.Y./Rye) topped the men's meet off with a win in the 100 butterfly.

The Tigers have another busy weekend ahead of them with dual meets scheduled at Ohio Northern on Friday, Nov. 16, at 6 p.m., and at home against Oberlin on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 3 p.m.
