SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Wittenberg men's and women's swimming and diving teams took first in 19 of 32 events to roll to wins of 179.5-120.5 for the men and 183-117 for the women Friday night at home against Ohio Northern. The men are now 5-1 in dual meet action, while the women improve to 4-2. The sweep comes just six days after taking down Wilmington in similar fashion on the road.
The women collected 11 first place finishes, including three individual wins by freshman Adrienne Andrews (Bristol, Ind./Northridge) in the 100 backstroke, 200 individual medley and 200 backstroke. Fellow rookie Ward McNulty (Glencoe, Ill./New Trier) and sophomore Keaton Hannon (Peachtree City, Ga./McIntosh) each grabbed two first-place finishes. McNulty won the 50 and 100 freestyle events, while Hannon bested the competition in the 100 and 200 butterflies.
Sophomore Megan Tassone (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) took first in the 200 breaststroke, while sophomore Cecilia Wille (Knoxville, Tenn./Farragut) won the 200 freestyle. In relay action, Wittenberg's 400 medley relay team, consisting of Andrews, Tassone, Hannon and senior Janna House (St. Thomas, Ontario/Central Elgin Collegiate Institute), took first, along with the 400 free relay team of House, Wille and sophomores Sinjin McNicholl (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) and Rachel Lee (Hickory, NC/Hickory).
The men's team turned in eight first-place finishes, led by senior Neil Anderson (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) with three. He took first in the 200 freestyle, 200 butterfly and 500 freestyle.
Also notching top individual finishes were senior Matt Erenpreiss (Columbus, Ohio/Centennial) with a sweep of the diving events, junior Zach Stewart (Vincennes, Ind./Lincoln) in the 100 butterfly and junior Chris Culkin (Novi, Mich./Northville) in the 1000 freestyle.
Stewart, Anderson, senior Taylor Smith (Mansfield, Ohio/Senior) and freshman Michael Garza (Dayton, Ohio/Hampton) teamed up to take top honors in the 400 medley relay to wrap up the men's wins.
The Tigers return to the water tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 21, in a tri-meet with Oberlin and Baldwin-Wallace in Oberlin, Ohio, at 3 p.m.
