Tigers Pull Off Unprecedented Sweep At Wooster

Chris Culkin

WOOSTER, Ohio - A number of strong individual Tiger performances led both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams to a sweep of the Wooster Scots in the second dual meet of the 2008-09 season. The men topped the Scots 123-119, while the women also took a close meet by a 126-110 score. It was the first time in recorded Wittenberg swimming and diving history that the Tigers have defeated Wooster in both men's and women's dual competitions in the same season.

Sophomore Chris Culkin (Novi, Mich./Northville) led the way on the men's side, as he took a pair of victories in the 500 and 1000 yard freestyle events. Also taking first place honors for the men was fellow sophomore Zachary Stewart (Vincennes, Ind./Lincoln), who landed the top spot in the 100 yard freestyle. A win for junior Neil Anderson (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) rounded out the individual winners for the men's swimmers. In addition, junior Matt Erenpreiss (Columbus, Ohio/Centennial) took first in the 3-meter diving and second in the 1-meter diving.

On the women's side, junior Adeline Brym (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) took the top spot in the 200-yard Individual Medley and the 200 backstroke, both in near NCAA B cut times, while freshman Keaton Hannon (Peachtree City, Georgia/McIntosh) won the 200 butterfly, freshman Cecilia Wille (Knoxville, Tenn./Farragut) captured the 200 freestyle, freshman Rachel Lee (Hickory, N.C./Hickory) was first in the 1000 freestyle and junior Kristin Elber (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) touched first in the 100 freestyle. In the diving events, sophomore Megan Shubitowski (Columbus, Ohio/Watterson) provided big points as she swept both heights.

The Tigers will hit the pool again Friday, Nov. 7, when Transylvania and Wabash come for a triangular meet from the HPER Center Natatorium starting at 7 p.m.
