Katherine Haney was named head women's lacrosse coach at Wittenberg University in July 2003. A former Denison University lacrosse standout, Haney replaced Nancy Beck, who held the position for 17 years.

In her first season heading up the Tiger program, Haney led Wittenberg to a 2-8 record against an extremely challenging schedule that included national powers Colorado College, Denison, Wooster, Ursinus and Frostburg State. The roster included just one senior and had lost its leading scorer and all-conference goaltender from the 2003 season. She followed that up with a four-game improvement in 2005 as Haney starts to build the program back toward the top of the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Haney joined the Tigers after a year as an assistant women's lacrosse and women's soccer coach at Utica College, an NCAA Division III institution in Utica, N.Y. Prior to that, Haney spent two years as head girls' lacrosse coach at Smoky Hills High School in Aurora, Colo., and she also has experience coaching Team Colorado in the annual Vail Shootout and assisting with the Mountain Region National Team.

As a player, Haney helped the Big Red, one of Wittenberg's NCAC rivals, to two North Coast Athletic Conference championships and two berths in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Denison posted four straight winning seasons during Haney's career and finished the NCAC regular season with perfect 7-0 records in 1998, 1999 and 2000. Haney was the team's starting goaltender from 1997-2000, and she played at least three-quarters of the minutes of each season in the net. In 2000, Haney had her finest season, posting a save percentage above .500 and earning first-team All-NCAC and first-team All-West Region.

Haney, a native of Atlanta, graduated from Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va., where she was a standout in lacrosse. In addition to her duties as head women's lacrosse coach at Wittenberg, Haney serves as an assistant coach with the Tiger field hockey program. She helped that team win the 2003 and 2004 NCAC regular season and tournament championships.

Haney resigned from Wittenberg shortly into the 2006 women's lacrosse season. Head field hockey coach and assistant women's lacrosse coach Diana Kuser took over as interim head coach for the remainder of the 2006 season.
