Wittenberg Holds Off Fontbonne, 10-6

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - If there was any weariness from a tough stretch of three games in four days, it certainly did not show for the Wittenberg women's lacrosse team as they dispatched their opponents for the second time in as many days in a 10-6 win over Fontbonne.

Much like in their win over Trine the day before, the Tigers used an early run to create separation before relying on defense late in the win. A well-balanced offensive performance, led by senior Hannah Cupples (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster), kept the Griffins on their heels as the Tigers built a 5-1 edge at the break. Cupples notched a pair of goals, one of four Tigers to claim a brace on the day.

Sophomore Maggie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy) scored early in the second half to help put the game out of reach, while also assisting on the Tigers' first goal of the match. In goal, WIttenberg made another adjustment, going with freshman Jenny Schaafsma (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) for the entirety. Schaafsma came up with a season-high eight saves for the Red and White.

Wittenberg now sits at 3-1 as the home stretch wraps up Wednesday, April 1 at 7 p.m. when the Tigers entertain NCAC foe Ohio Wesleyan. The matchup marks the NCAC opener for Head Coach Kati Robbins' squad.
