Wittenberg Cruises Past Host Fontbonne, 14-5

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Wittenberg Tigers made the long trip to Fontbonne University a winning one with a 14-5 victory.

The win moved the Tigers, who put 22 players into the game, back above the .500 mark at 3-2 on the still-young season, while Fontbonne, now in its second year with a women's lacrosse program, fell to 2-4.

Holding a 3-2 lead through the first nine minutes of the game, the Tigers went off, scoring 11 unanswered goals to put the game away. The scoring jag helped make a winner out of sophomore goalkeeper Bonnie Kenney (Lutherville, Md./Park School), who came up with five saves.

The Tiger offense was powered by junior Lizzie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy) with five goals, freshman Maggie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy) with three goals, senior Amber Cupples (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) with two goals and one assist and freshman Lisa Blahut (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles) with two goals and one assist.

Defensively, the Tigers picked up a strong all-around performance from junior Beth Vonderbrink (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame). She was credited with three ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers.
