Wittenberg Celebrates Senior Day With Big Win Over Oberlin

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Wittenberg Tigers sent out their seniors in style Saturday with a 19-8 triumph against visiting Oberlin.

The season-ending win pushed the Tigers to 6-7 overall and 1-5 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action. Oberlin dropped to 3-11 and 0-6.

Wittenberg sprinted out to leads of 5-0 through the first 10 minutes of the game and 13-2 by the end of the first half and put it on cruise control from there. Every player in a Red & White uniform saw action in the game.

The offense received a boost from the efficient Lizzie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy), who scored on all five of her shots in the game. Also of note, freshman Maggie Amorello (Sutton, Mass./Worcester Academy) added two goals, freshman Jordan Beauchamp (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville)chipped in with three scores on four shots, junior Megan Meige (Columbus, Ohio/DeSales) dished out three assists and senior Amber Cupples (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) rounded out the multi-point scorers with a goal and an assist in her final home appearance.

Not to be overlooked was the fine play of the Tiger defense, sparked by sophomore goalkeeper Bonnie Kenney (Lutherville, Md./Park School) with 12 saves, including eight in the second half. Meige added three caused turnovers and Cupples and sophomore Lauren Stets (Westerville, Ohio/North) each added three ground balls.
