Today I sold pizza to help fund raise for the Witt Women's Lacrosse team and it was also the day that everyone got their bid cards back. We were at the HPER Center selling pizza at $2 a slice and lollypops at 50 cents each. I met Coach, Anne, and Molly there on a Saturday morning. I was having so much fun and I was excited for practice on Monday, but I was even more excited for my bid card that my Rho Chi was going to bring to me at the basketball game. She walked in the door with the white envelope-I opened it up, and I got a bid from Delta Gamma, my first choice! I was so happy and nervous- I couldn't wait to see who my new sisters would be. Coach Beck was so sweet, offering to let me call whoever I wanted on her cell phone. I will always remember that day because I was with my friends from the lacrosse team when I found out what sorority I was in.

The first week of practice is always interesting. It was good to finally see the whole team together and start playing. For our first week, we had decent stick skills and it was great to see the effort put into every drill and conditioning activity. Everyone seemed excited and energetic about the upcoming season. With more freshmen that upperclassmen it was nice to intermingle so that we could all get to know each other and start working on our season.

Our second week of practice got us prepared to go to an indoor scrimmage at Kenyon. As a freshman, I have begun to feel a true part of the team. We have so much talent; all we need to donow is to get the team to "click" as a whole. Swimming this week was a new conditioning experience! I felt like I was dog-paddling while we were deep-water jogging. Afterwards, Nadya, Ally, and I got pictures taken looking good in our towel turbans. Then, at the scrimmage, we got a taste of what our season will be like. We will have to work hard and continue bonding into a team that works as a unit.

Practice is going really well getting ready for spring break in Florida! We were able to go outside for the first time last week, and we froze our butts off! Actually, I wasn't really all that cold, but everyone else seemed to be. I'm excited because my shin splints are getting better, and I'm getting over being sick, so hopefully I'll be able to get into top shape by spring break. Getting to be outside has made it feel like we're really about to start our season. I think it has gotten everyone pumped to start.

We departed from Wittenberg shortly after 6 p.m. after rounding up all the members of the 2002 Witt Women's Lacrosse team and the Blimpie 12-foot long subs. Everyone was in good spirits and excited for some fun in the sun. Florida, here we come! Coach Beshara took charge of the movie selection with the help of a few other players. First up was Legally Blonde, not one of my personal favorites, but I got a good laugh from it anyway. Then Bring It On was selected by majority vote and by the end of the movie, everyone was cheering. "I said Brrr, it's cold in here, there must be some TIGERS in the atmosphere!" Ok, enough girly movies. Bridget Jones' Diary made the final cut from Beshara's Theatre. I don't think anyone would disagree that it was the best of the three movies, especially because of the phenomenal acting by Hugh Grant. Ahhh what a heartthrob. I'm sure everyone was dreaming of him as the dozed off on the bus floor. I sure did. I found that the bus floor was more comfortable that the two chairs I had to myself. I didn't wake up until I was palm trees out of the windows. We were already in Florida. Our predetermined arrival was 12, but we were on the beach before 10 a.m. That is after hitting the #1 buffet-style breakfast at Shoney's (that tasted great!) care. After being on a bus for so many hours, I just wanted to be free! The Florida sun was so wonderful! We all went straight to the breach. A great start to a wonderful week! P.S. I love the hot tub!

Today was an intense day for us. We had three 25 minute scrimmages and our first game of the season. The scrimmages were a great chance for us to get used to plying with one another and we continuously improved from one scrimmage to the next. Unfortunately though, we lost out game to Regis, but our spirits were high for the next game.

The day started with a sandcastle contest at 9:30am. So, not too bad. We could sleep in a little bit. My room built a great castle called Babushka. We changes Anne into a human sandcastle and put one of the team bandanas on her head. She actually didn't really appreciate this. Despite our great castle, we lost. The other rooms built better castles in the eyes of the coaches (we actually still think ours was the best!). Disappointed, (just kidding) we went to our next activity of the day: pool workout. This was really funny, I think, because the whole pool was filled with the team and we were all screaming during the relays. After the workout, we went to our rooms to rest for our game that would start at 4:30. When we were all ready to go, a tornado was coming up! (That was actually very scary, I thought) We still went to the field where the game was supposed to be, to find out what was going on. It was pouring outside, and there was lightning and thunder. While we were waiting for the decision about the game, we watched Remember the Titans. Then we went to dinner early as Shoney's, where we went earlier this week. After dinner we went back to the field and there we found out that the game would be played on Thursday. Such a pity. We watched the movie until the Brine Game of the week began. We watched that game; this was really helpful for me. After that game, we returned to our hotel, The Flaming, and I went straight to bed because we had to wake up early the next day.

Today started with an early morning practice at 8 am. We practiced really hard and were pumped for our game the following day. After practice, we had the entire afternoon to ourselves. It was cloudy in the morning so, Anne and I took a little nap, and when we woke up it was a bright sunshiny day. We then made our way down to the beach and got some sun. A bunch of us went searching in the ocean for shells. We kept running out of the water screaming because there was an infestation of jellyfish. Jellyfish were all over because of the storm the day before. After the beach, we all got dressed up for pictures and a team dinner at Schooners. Schooners was a local grill. They had a live band there with two members. The one had a full mullet and the other had a wannabe mullet. They were really good. We had fun singing and dancing together even though we had some problems getting our food. We did get free dessert! The highlight of the day was when Coach taught Ally how to swim. We cheered her on from the balcony. She did awesome! Go Ally!

As Thursday rolled around, I was hard to believe that our week in the hot sun was almost over! The day started early as the team headed to the practice field at 8 am for a walk through. The short, one hour practice was a perfect pre-game warm-up. After practice, we had to pack up, clean, and relax before our last game at Spring Fling 2002. At 11:45 the team met for a pre-game talk that consisted of the game "telephone" and yet another psych-up good luck present from Coach! It was 1:30 and it was time for our challenge against Salve Regina. The game was hard fought. The Tigers god the victory 14 to 11. I can see the team really coming together. Our passing and transition looked 100% better, and our 3 plays are becoming really effective. It was the perfect end to a perfect spring break. Now back to good Ole' Witt for a couple of days of rest and the preparation for our first home game againstPuget Sound. I can't wait to see how the rest of the season goes. Win or lose, I've become a lot closer to everyone on the team, and I think this season will be fun!

The bus ride home to Witt from Panama City Beach has given me time for reflection. This past week has truly been amazing. Everything from seashell hunting, gift shops, Jackie's mullets, and laying out, to dancing at Schooners, learning to swim, hearing Coach's stories, and burning to a crisp, all brings a smile to my face. This week has really brought all the girls together. I have gained much from this trip than a win over Salve Regina and useless junk from the beach shops. Ihave gained a group of people that I can truly call "friends." I wouldn't trade that for all the airbrushed shirts in the world. Looking down the aisle, I see a huge difference in the team. When compared to the ride to Florida, we have come together as a unit. Except for the deciding movies (I really don't care for the Princess Bride ). That aside, I feel that on and off the field, the Wittenberg Tigers Women's Lacrosse Team is more than a bunch of individual talent. This spring break has revealed how close-knit we can be. I am so glad to have been part of it.
