A meeting of the minds produced fine results for the Tigers against Ohio Wesleyan during the 2001 season.

January 26, 2001
We had our first week of practice this week, which was led by the seniors. The first day was rough because everyone was a little bit rusty, but as soon as the second day came around things ran more smoothly. We worked on a combination of different skills, a perfect warm-up into the season. I feel comfortable around all the players on my team, including the upperclassmen. My team has a nice mix of girls from all levels and years as well as some freshmen with lots of potential. I'm looking forward to a good season, full of lots of hard work.

Kenyon Scrimmage Day
We had our first look at ourselves as a team all together on the field. Actually, it was Kenyon's indoor track. For being our first time as one, we looked pretty good. We had some problems here and there, but I think that all and all it was a good day. We learned what we need to work on and also got a look at how each individual played the game. Being a defensive player, I must always remember to stay goal side. And sometimes being an offensive player, I need to make sure I make good V and L cuts, and also spread out. I think we have a lot of potential on this team. And being a senior who has worked hard for the past three years, I am ready to win a championship. Let's go TIGERS!!

Spring Break - Tuesday
This year at Spring Fling, we had one day full of scrimmages. Although at the end of the day we were tired - I think that we can all look back and agree that we accomplished a lot. The scrimmage day is a great time to work on plays and to get the team to adjust to a full field game. It is also a great time to play teams from many different areas without the stress of a regular game day. I think that the team left the scrimmage day with a positive attitude and was prepared for our upcoming games.

Spring Break - Friday
Spring Break 2001 was tons of fun. We played three very good teams in regulation games (RIT, Shippensburg and the University of Buffalo Club Team). In the RIT game, although we played very well, we had a rough time to start, but held on in the second half and recorded more goals. I personally did not play well. Next, we played Shippensburg on Thursday afternoon. Right from the first draw they crashed the goal cage every time. We had no time to establish a settled defense. I was really impressed with how well we recovered from it. We were able to pick up our game that evening for a big win against Buffalo. In that game we played well, getting our defense set up quickly, and we only allowed five goals. On Thursday, we had a team sand sculpture contest on the beach, when each room had 45 minutes to build a sculpture.
They were each very creative. Annie, Cara, Christie and Lindsay - a tiger; Sara, Erin, Carrie and Kate - an octopus; Nicole, Jill, Katie and Mollie - a dolphin jumping through a lacrosse stick; and Danielle, Jennie, Kati and Reese - a tiger. All of the sculptures were really awesome, but the with the stick won. Everyone got their picture taken, it was a nice, relaxing morning before two tough games. I had a blast on the trip and can't wait until next year's.

Monday, April 2
Yesterday's game against Oberlin was awesome! I had seen never lacrosse like that before. The weather was pretty nasty, but that did not stop our team's intensity. We took an early lead, and by halftime the score was 4-1. Oberlin came back in the second half to tie the game at 5-5. Even though we were nervous in overtime, we held them back. In the sudden death we scored early to win the game. Go Witt!

April 3
Today we played the Battling Bishops from Ohio Wesleyan. This game was an NCAC game and was important for us to win. We started off strong with scoring the first four goals. Continuous passes down the field make us hard to defend. By the end of the game we were up by one goal and held the ball. Final score: Witt 7, OWU 6. This is the Tigers' season.

April 12
On April 5, we played Kenyon. We came out strong, scoring four goals right away, and then something happened. We lost the game 19-10. We came out playing our game, but somehow we just never got our momentum back after the first 10 minutes. This game should showed us that we should treat each game the same and not get pumped up for one more than any other.
On Sunday, April 8 we came back on our field to play Whittier from California. They came east for their Spring Break, and had five games scheduled. We beat them 15-4, which gave us our confidence back. We were able to play our game in the strange weather with a recruit there. This game shhowed us that even though playing a team not as tough as some of the teams we face in the conference, we can still play our game. With the win against Whittier, we were really pumped to play on Wednesday, April 11 against Denison. We have not beat that team since 1991. We wanted it bad. The days before were lousy weather, so that forced us to move practice inside the days leading up to the game. The game ended with Denison on top 26-11. We scored more goals than anyone in the conference so far this season. We did not play our best against Denison, but it showed us that if we step it up, we can do it. Yeah Witt!
