Women's Golf remains in fourth place after second round of NCAC Championships

WESTFIELD CENTER — The Wittenberg women's golf team remained in fourth place after Saturday's second round of the three-day North Coast Athletic Conference Championships.

The Basics

  • Venue: Westfield Country Club North Course - Westfield Center, Ohio, Par 70, Yardage: 5,528
  • Hiram is serving as the host school for the tournament.
  • The top five individual finishers (including ties) earn All-NCAC First Team honors. Places six through 10 (including ties) earn Second Team recognition, and places 11-15 (including ties) earn Third Team accolades.
  • Wittenberg is seeking its fourth all-time conference title and first since winning three straight from 2015 to 2017.
  • Senior Ellen Frame (Mason, Ohio/Mason) and sophomores Izzy Selby (Cincinati, Ohio/Seton) and Hillary Humbaugh (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) are returning All-NCAC performers from a year ago. Frame and Selby earned Second Team honors after finishing tied for sixth at the 2023 NCAC Championships, and Humbaugh earned Third Team recognition with a 13th-place finish.
  • Denison, which received votes in the latest WGCA Coaches Poll, is the three-time defending champion.

The Tournament

  • Wittenberg is in fourth place in the five-team field with an 89-over-par 315-334—649. Denison leads the team standings with a 36-over-par 295-301—596. Wooster is second at 40-over-par, and DePauw is third at 43-over-par.
  • DePauw's Becky Williams holds a 10-shot lead in the individual standings with a 7-under-par 69-64—133. Wooster's Melissa Burtscher is second at 3-over-par, and Denison's Kate Griffin is third at 7-over-par.
  • Humbaugh is Wittenberg's top performer in 11th place in the 24-woman field with a 15-over-par 77-78—155.
  • Junior Halley McNair (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) is 15th with a 21-over-par 78-83—161.
  • Selby is 16th with a 22-over-par 80-82—162.
  • Freshman Taylor Rausch (Mechanicsburg, Ohio/Mechanicsburg) is 19th with a 38-over-par 87-91—178.
  • Frame has withdrawn after shooting an opening-round 80 on Friday.
  • Wittenberg entered Saturday in fourth place, trailing third-place DePauw by seven strokes. Denison held a four-shot lead over second-place Wooster.
  • Individually, Williams entered Saturday with a three-shot lead. Humbaugh was Wittenberg's top performer sitting in 10th place after the opening round.
