Humbaugh posts runner-up finish as Women's Golf places third at Franklin Lady Grizzly Spring Invitational

FRANKLIN, Ind. — Sophomore Hillary Humbaugh (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) posted a runner-up finish to lead the Wittenberg women's golf team to a third-place showing of nine teams at the end of Sunday's second and final round of the Franklin Lady Grizzly Spring Invitational.

The Basics

  • Venue: The Legends Golf Club - Franklin, Ind., Par 72, Yardage: 5,617
  • Franklin College served as the host school for the tournament.
  • Joining Wittenberg in the nine-team field were Anderson, Franklin, Hanover, Mount St. Joseph, Transylvania, Bluffton, Spalding and Rose-Hulman. Rose-Hulman received votes in the latest NCAA Division III Mizuno WGCA Coaches Poll, which was released April 12.

The Tournament

  • Wittenberg shot a 102-over-par 344-334—678 to place third in the nine-team field. Rose-Hulman won the team championship with a 65-over-par 327-314—641, and Mount St. Joseph was second with a 97-over-par 338-335—673. The Tigers sat in third place at the end of Saturday's first round, six shots behind second-place Mount St. Joseph and 17 shots behind leader Rose-Hulman.
  • Humbaugh finished second in the 57-woman field, posting a 13-over-par 80-77—157. She finished three shots back of tournament medalist Precious Saelee of Rose-Hulman, who posted a 10-over-par 80-74—154. Humbaugh ended Saturday's opening round tied with Saelee for first place with a one-stroke lead at 8-over-par.
  • Rose-Hulman's Elizabeth Ma and Mikaela Ikeda tied for third at 17-over-par.
  • Senior Ellen Frame (Mason, Ohio/Mason) moved up six spots in the second round to finish tied for 12th with a 25-over-par 87-82—169.
  • Junior Halley McNair (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) tied for 16th with a 27-over-par 85-86—171.
  • Freshman Taylor Rausch (Mechanicsburg, Ohio/Mechanicsburg) tied for 32nd with a 38-over-par 92-90—182.
  • Sophomore Izzy Selby (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) moved up five spots on Saturday to finish tied for 37th with a 42-over-par 97-89—186.

Up Next

  • After hosting the Wittenberg Student-Alum Pro-Am exhibition at Springfield Country Club on Monday, the Tigers return to action May 3-5 at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships at Westfield Country Club in Westfield Center, Ohio.
