
HOUSTON, Texas - The Wittenberg Tigers made the most of their first look at the course that will play host to the 2016 NCAA Division III Tournament, finishing third in the 13-team NCAA Spring Preview.
The Tigers carded rounds of 330 and 311 on the par-72, 5,871-yard Bay Oaks Country Club to finish 25 strokes behind first-place Texas-Tyler, which posted a two-day total of 616. New York University placed second at 639, followed by the Tigers at 641, a total that was 23 strokes ahead of fourth-place Trinity and 24 strokes better than the host team, Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Wittenberg also stood third after the first round before posting the best score of the second day at 311, one stroke better than Texas-Tyler.
A total of 71 golfers were entered in the field, and Wittenberg's five student-athletes all placed in the top half. Leading the charge was sophomore Jane Hopkinson-Wood (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School) with a two-round total of 153 to finish in third place, four strokes off the lead.
Senior Maggie Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) and junior Macy Hubbard (Mason, Ohio/Mason) also picked up top-10 finishes as well. Smith finished with a total of 161 to place ninth, while Hubbard posted a 162 to place 10th.
Rounding things out for Wittenberg were freshman Chloe Bradburn (Gahanna, Ohio/Columbus Academy) in 27th with a 169, and senior Allie Lawwill (Springboro, Ohio/Middletown) in 34th with a 172.
