Springfield, Ohio – For the second straight year, Wittenberg University women’s golfers Allie Lawwill (Springboro, Ohio/Middletown), Nicole Waers (Canton, Ohio/Perry), Carolyn Wong (Naperville, Ill./Central) and Macy Hubbard (Mason, Ohio/Mason) have been honored by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) with All-American Scholar awards.

Lawwill, Waers, Wong and Hubbard are among 758 women’s collegiate golfers across all three NCAA divisions who have earned the prestigious honor. To make the list, a player must maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average and play in a minimum of 12 competitive rounds.

“We are very fortunate to have young ladies interested in thriving in the classroom and on the golf course,” said Head Coach Jeff Roope, who earned NCAC Coach of the Year and NCAA Division III Great Lakes Coach of the Year honors in 2015. “I am very proud of them and thankful that they are Tigers.”

Lawwill, a junior, ranked fifth on the team with a scoring average of 83.45. She played in 22 of the Tigers’ 26 rounds in the 2014-15 season, and she recorded four top-10 finishes to run her career total of top-10s to 13 in her collegiate career. After earning second-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) honors as a sophomore, Lawwill collected honorable mention all-league recognition.

Waers, a senior, capped her collegiate career in style, starting with a career-best 79.50 scoring average that ranked second on the team. She finished in the top-five in four tournaments during the 2014-15 season and the top-10 in eight of her 11 tournaments overall. Waers earned her second straight first-team All-NCAC award after earning second team in 2013, and she added first-team All-Great Lakes Region honors in 2015 as well.

Wong, a senior, ranked sixth on the team in stroke average after posting a mark of 83.69, the best of her collegiate career. She competed in eight tournaments during the 2014-15 season after earning second-team All-NCAC honors as a junior.

Hubbard enjoyed a breakout sophomore season, improving her stroke average by more than two shots per round to finish third on the team at 79.54. She saved her best for last for a second straight year, charging to a medalist finish in the NCAC Championship Series and then rallying in the last two rounds to claim NCAA Division III runner-up honors. For the season, Hubbard claimed four top-five finishes and nine top-10s while playing in all 12 of the Tigers’ tournaments, and she earned her second straight first-team All-NCAC accolade. In addition, she earned first-team All-Great Lakes Region honors in 2015.

The 2014-15 season was by far the best in the program’s 12-year history, culminating in a run to second place in the final NCAA Division III Tournament standings in the Tigers’ first-ever appearance on a national stage. Wittenberg finished first in eight of its 11 regular season tournaments in the 2014-15 season, including in wins in three straight competitions to close the campaign. The last two tournament victories combined to give the Tigers the NCAC Championship Series title by a stunning 71 strokes over runner-up DePauw.
