
SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Wittenberg women's golf team kicked off the second half of the 2012-13 season with an 11th-place finish at the Armstrong Atlantic Pirate Invitational.
The Tigers carded a two-day total of 697 on the par-72, 5,914-yard course at Savannah Quarters Country Club. The host Pirates finished first in the 13-team field with a two-round score of 607.
Wittenberg was the lone NCAA Division III team entered in the field. The Tigers were paced individually by a pair of first-year players as freshman Maggie Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) checked in with a 166 to place 33rd and freshman Allie Lawwill (Springboro, Ohio/Middletown) was steady with matching 87s to finish with a 174, good for 46th place.
Sophomore Carolyn Wong (Naperville, Ill./Central) was next for Wittenberg with back-to-back rounds of 88 as she finished with a 176, good for 51st place. Junior Deanna Mychalishyn (Mason, Ohio/Mason) placed 58th with a 181 and sophomore Nicole Waers (Canton, Ohio/Perry) rounded out the line-up in 62nd place with a 189.
Also of note, senior Miranda Pettit (Crawfordsville, Ind./Crawfordsville) finished 58th and sophomore Savannah Fox (Massillon, Ohio/Perry) placed 69th. Both were entered in the tournament as individuals.
