Lawwill, Waers, Wong Earn National Academic Awards

Springfield, Ohio – Wittenberg University women’s golf standouts Allie Lawwill (Springboro, Ohio/Middletown), Nicole Waers (Canton, Ohio/Perry) and Carolyn Wong (Naperville, Ill./Central) have been honored by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) with All-American Scholar awards.

Lawwill, Waers and Wong were among 644 women’s collegiate golfers across all three NCAA divisions who were recognized with the prestigious honor. To make the list, a player must maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average and play in a minimum of 12 rounds while holding an adjusted scoring average of 95 or better. 

Lawwill enjoyed a tremendous inaugural collegiate campaign in 2012-13, finishing third on the team in stroke average at 81.9 while playing all 21 rounds for the Tigers. She earned second-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) honors after placing eighth in the two-week, four-round NCAC Championship Series. Lawwill finished in the top five in two tournaments and the top 10 in six during the 2012-13 season. 

Waers also picked up second-team All-NCAC honors after placing 12th in the 2013 NCAC Championship Series, capping a 2012-13 season that included four top-10 tournament finishes. Waers has played all 41 rounds in her first two collegiate campaigns, and she has posted a stroke average of 84.2 each season. She holds the school record for one round score (73) and her best two-round score 152 ranks second in program history. 

Wong improved her stroke average of 2.6 per round as a sophomore, finishing the 2012-13 season with a mark of 84.1, good for fourth on the team. She participated in all 21 rounds during in 2012-13, highlighted by a first-place finish in the Mount Union Spring Invitational. On the season, Wong placed in the top 10 four times. 

As a team, Wittenberg ranked 12th in the final WGCA national poll. The Tigers placed second in the NCAC Championship Series after winning three tournaments during the 2012-13 campaign. Wittenberg was the highest ranked team in the final national poll without a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
