Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University's women's golf standouts Rachel Steiner, class of 2015 from Hamilton, Ohio, Nicole Waers, class of 2015 from Canton, Ohio, and Carolyn Wong, class of 2015 from Naperville, Ill., were recently honored by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) with All-American Scholar awards.

Waers, Wong and Steiner were among 602 NCAA women's collegiate golfers across all three divisions who were recognized with this prestigious honor. To make the list, a player must maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average and play in a minimum of 12 rounds while holding an adjusted scoring average of 95 or better.

Steiner led the Tigers with a stroke average of 82.6 in her inaugural collegiate season. She played all 20 rounds during the 2011-12 season, with a low round of 75 that tied for the second-best in program history. She recorded two top-10 finishes in 10 tournaments, including a fifth-place finish at the Allegheny Spring Invitational. Steiner earned second-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) honors following the season.

Waers also played all 20 rounds during the 2011-12 season, recording three top-10 finishes in her 11 tournaments. Her stroke average of 84.2 was third-best on the team, highlighted by her second-round 73 at the Washington University Invitational on April 1. That score broke the school record for single round score, while her two-day total of 152 also broke a school record.

Wong appeared in 10 tournaments, encompassing 18 rounds. Her stroke average of 86.7 was good for fifth on the team in 2011-12.

As a team, Wittenberg ranked 21st in the final NGCA national poll. The Tigers placed third in the NCAC Championship Series behind only DePauw and Allegheny, two of the top 13 teams in the nation.
