Tigers Finish Middle Of Pack At NKU Spring Invitational

PERRY PARK, Ky. — Competing against primarily scholarship programs, the Wittenberg women's golf team opened the final leg of the 2011-12 season with a solid performance in the Northern Kentucky Spring Invitational, finishing 12th in a loaded 20-team field at Perry Park Golf Club.

The Tigers stood tied for eighth after the first day before falling four spots to 12th in the final standings. After carding a 322 to trail the University of Indianapolis by 22 strokes at the end of the opening day, Wittenberg checked in with a 337 on Day 2 to finish at 659. Indianapolis won the event with a two-day total of 597.

Wittenberg's top individual finisher was senior Anne Busam (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline), who placed 43rd after posting rounds of 80 and 81 on the 5,819-yard, par-72 course. Freshman Rachel Steiner (Hamilton, Ohio/Lakota West) was close behind with a two-day total of 165 to finish 56th in the 120-player field.

Freshman Carolyn Wong (Naperville, Ill./Central) finished with a 167 to place 62nd, freshman Nicole Waers (Canton, Ohio/Perry) placed 64th with a 168, and sophomore Deanna Michalishyn (Mason, Ohio/Mason) rounded things out with a 171, good for 76th place.
